Andre Braugher, Brooklyn Nine-Nine Star, Cause of Death Revealed
So, here’s the thing. Andre Braugher, that “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” guy, he’s gone. Lung cancer took him away, after a months-long battle. His rep confirmed it to Page Six, last Thursday.
He’d been diagnosed with the disease “a few months” before he passed away. The news came out on Monday. Before that, his publicist had only mentioned that he’d died from a brief illness. He was 61.
You might remember Braugher best from the ’90s. He played a Baltimore homicide detective named Frank Pembleton on “Homicide: Life on the Street.” That was quite a role. But more recently, he was Raymond Holt on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” He starred alongside Andy Samberg and Terry Crews. His performance earned him two Critics Choice Awards and four Emmy nominations. Not too shabby, huh?
After his death, many of his former colleagues paid tribute to him on social media. Terry Crews, 55, wrote a heartfelt message on Instagram. “Can’t believe you’re gone so soon,” he said.
“I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent,” Crews continued. The ex-NFL player added, “This hurts. … I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you.” He concluded his tribute by saying, “You showed me what a life well lived looks like. Rest In Peace, Andre. I love you, man.”
Chelsea Peretti, who played Gina Linetti on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” also shared her grief on Instagram. “Is it weird that I am also grieving for what Captain Holt meant to Gina?” she wrote. She added, “I really hoped and knew I would see you again. Hate that I won’t 💔.”
Braugher leaves behind his wife, Ami Brabson, and their three adult sons, Michael, Isaiah, and John.
